Dr Tank Green

My passion for gardening began over 20 years ago when I moved to rural France to practise silence and grow my own food. There I fell in love with the bats swooping through the orchard at dusk, inspecting bugs in buttercups, and became acquainted with my first hummingbird hawk moth.
More recently, I developed a weekly walking practice, taking the train out into the countryside once a week to hike for 20–30km. During these walks, I observed that some of the richest places for plant, insect, and bird life were along the margins of fields, woodlands, hedgerows, and paths.
I then started to notice overlooked and marginal spaces everywhere throughout London which could also be transformed into valuable habitat for insects and birds. The idea for Margins was born.
I now hold the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture (distinction) and continue to develop my practical conservation and habitat-building skills through regular volunteering with a number of urban conservation organisations.
Finally, my academic background has given me extensive experience in research and communicating complex ideas clearly, allowing me to offer practical advice informed by the latest ecological evidence.
